How do genetic mutations in FluB translate to disease? 

We map which mutations drive transmissibility, immune escape, and tissue tropism using deep mutational scanning, and whole-genome sequencing.

Why do children get FluB more than adults? Children show highest infection rates and have more extrapulmonary symptoms. 

We investigate, is it immunology? Viral genetics? Contact patterns? All three? 

Difficulty: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 

Can we eliminate FluB? It has no animal reservoir — it only circulates in humans. 

We're exploring whether a pediatric-focused LAIV strategy could interrupt transmission. Not easy. But maybe possible.
